Naming ceremony for first Aframax rigid-sail tanker held in Shanghai

The vessel is designed to transport oil on European routes.

The Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS, China) shipyard held a naming ceremony for the world’s first Aframax product tanker equipped with a system of three rigid sails. This was reported by the shipbuilding company on social networks.
The vessel was named Brands Hatch. The tanker is almost 250 m long, 44 m wide, and each sail is more than 37 m high. The vessel is equipped with an automatic sail control system.
The LR2 tanker was built for the British company Union Maritime and is designed to transport oil on European routes. The WindWings rigid sail system was developed by the British company BAR Technologies and manufactured by the Chinese company CM Energy Tech (CMET).
