A few years ago, radio communication equipment for ships and maritime safety was predominantly foreign
A fully domestic set of radio navigation equipment will appear in Russia by 2027. This opinion was expressed by the General Director of JSC TsNII Kurs Vitaly Khanychev during the All-Russian conference “Communication on the Sea and River” held in St. Petersburg, the correspondent of IAA “PortNews” reports.
“As for the set of radio navigation equipment. I think that in a year or two it will be fully Russian,” Vitaly Khanychev believes.
According to him, several years ago TsNII Kurs conducted an analysis of the Russian market of radio communication equipment for ships and navigation safety. It turned out that foreign suppliers played a leading role in the supply of such equipment in almost all areas. “We conveyed this pain to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and received the corresponding funding within the framework of state programs for the development of shipbuilding,” Vitaly Khanychev explained.
The latest Russian developments were presented at the conference. Now they are at different stages of their implementation. Speaking about the serial domestic products already supplied to the market, Vitaly Khanychev named the ship receiver of the NAVTEX service “BNX 700”, the VHF radio installation “BHF 25”, the hidden security alert system “BSAS 96-02” (SSAS), the automated identification system (Man overboard) “BMOB 11” (AIS-MOB).
The MF/HF radio installation, UBPC, VSAT, and portable VHF have been developed and are at the production organization stage, which means they will be available for supply in the next two years. The coastal AIS/ASOD equipment and the coastal NAVTEX/NAVDAT equipment are in trial operation at the Arkhangelsk Basin Branch of the FSUE “Rosmorport”.
As Vitaly Khanychev noted, the import substitution process continues. At present, coastal MF/HF and VHF equipment is being developed. In 2026, it is planned to complete the work on creating a mobile coastal station to equip seasonal ports with the purpose of ensuring radio communications and rescue in case of disasters in sea areas A1, A2 GMDSS, as well as for seamless transmission of information on the safety of navigation (ISM) of the NAVTEX and NAVDAT services in the waters of the Russian Federation, in particular along the NSR. “The mobile station will provide the coordination and rescue centers with information on distress signals, urgency and safety in waters adjacent to coastal areas with a sensitive ecosystem or to specially protected areas, where the creation of permanent radio communication facilities is impossible or difficult,” explained the general director of the Central Research Institute “Kurs”.
