A marine operations center has started operating in the RS

In the Russian Maritime register of shipping (RS, Register), The Maritime operational center (Maritime operational center) has started operating on the basis of the main Directorate of the RS in Saint Petersburg.
The center was created to organize remote surveys in accordance with the requirements of the RS rules, hold meetings via video conferencing with clients, external organizations and regional divisions of the RS. At the moment, thanks to the technical capabilities of the new Center, the first remote surveys of the vessel in operation have already been carried out, in which specialists from the RS Main Department took part. Surveys were performed in real time on two vessels located in the ports of the far Eastern Federal district of the Russian Federation.
The International Association of classification societies (IACS) is actively considering the possibility of remote surveys of ships, i.e. without the direct physical presence of a classification society inspector, due to the continuing difficult epidemiological situation and the use of preventive measures by most governments and seaport administrations that restrict access to ships. In order to conduct Remote surveys, the register, as well as the majority of IACS member classification societies, has Developed appropriate amendments to the requirements of Chapter 4.15 of part I of the Rules for classification surveys of vessels in operation.
